You really should take your sleep seriously. And that means making sure that everything in your room is contributing to restful slumber. If you’re not sleeping on soft, smooth bedding, you may be limiting your potential.
There has been a lot of comparisons between the common materials used in bedding, from cotton and various synthetics to silk and, of course, bamboo. A lot of people still don’t realize that bamboo can be made into sheets and blankets, so they’re definitely surprised to find that it is comparable to silk in softness and that it is much more durable than cotton.
So what makes bamboo bedding so soft? Part of it is in the manufacturing process, and part of it is the natural properties of the bamboo.
This luxurious fabric is soft because of the way the plant fibers are turned into usable material. There are a couple ways to extract the fibers and turn it into a usable textile. The first is a mechanical process that crushes the bamboo into a pulp which is then broken down further by some special enzymes. The results are spun into a yarn that can be used in your bedding. However, this is an older method that is a little outdated and can create a less-than-heavenly texture.
The second method is to extract the fibers chemically. This works by treating the bamboo with sodium hydroxide, commonly known as caustic soda, and carbon disulfide, two natural compounds. So not only are they silky to the touch, they are also 100% organic.
This soaking process produces something called cellulose fiber, which is then turned into bamboo viscose, which is what is used to create amazingly soft bedding.
Nope. Caustic soda is used in the production of a wide range of products, such as soap and cotton fabrics. This much-needed ingredient is necessary during production to make bamboo bedding as soft as possible and can be recycled during the manufacturing process, so that it may be reused several times. Waste not want not.
Yup. The chemical process that makes the fabric so dreamy has no hazardous effects on the environment and is considered a ‘green’ product. Need more proof?
Bamboo bedding has other appealing properties that go hand-in-hand with it’s undeniable softness, such as:
If you are looking to change your sleeping habits and get back to nights filled with blissful sleep, comfort is a good place to start. This cozy fabric will make you feel like you are sleeping on a cloud, so you will never be dissatisfied with it. Make the switch from boring ol’ cotton to bamboo sheets and bedding to finally know what it’s like to sleep, dream, and have a peaceful and restful night of shut-eye.
